Revesby Reservoir,Revesby Estate (7 miles from Horncastle) owns two traditional lakes set in established woodland. The lakes have ample car parking and toilet facilities. It was built for Ralph, Lord Cromwell, in the years 1434-46. Cromwell was a wealthy and ambitious man who had been an adviser to Henry V and who became Lord Treasurer to Henry VI. Town ProfileThe Kings Head at HorncastlePopulation: 4,900, Horncastle is located at the confluence of the rivers Bain and Waring, in the county of Lincolnshire, approximately 135 miles north of London and 19 miles east of Lincoln. The earliest origins of Lincoln can be traced to the remains of an Iron Age settlement of round wooden dwellings (which were discovered by archaeologists in 1972) that have been dated to the 1st century BC. This settlement was built by a deep pool (the modern Brayford Pool) in the River Witham at the foot of a large hill (on which the Normans later built Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle).
